A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted murder Saturday after he allegedly stabbed and chased another man down the street before battling him on the back porch of a nearby home.

According to the Acushnet Police Department, at about 6:50 p.m., the victim, Justin Francis, 33, of Quaker Lane, Acushnet, was stabbed in the doorway of his home by Shane E. Vieira, of 305 Central Ave.

Francis fled down the street and pounded on the door of 100 Quaker Lane, asking residents there to telephone the police and report the stabbing, according to Acushnet officials.

Vieira then allegedly confronted Francis on the back porch of the home and stabbed him several more times. Police report that Francis was able to defend himself with a two-by-four piece of wood, and both men were found unconscious on the porch when police arrived.

Francis was airlifted to Boston Medical Center for treatment. His condition is unknown.

Vieira was treated at St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Police said they believe the altercation was related to a prior incident between the two men.
