BOSTON -- A Worcester, Mass., woman is being charged with beating and raping a 16-year-old girl who lived in her house and did her housework for the past five years, police said, in what they called a "Cinderella-type situation."
Police: Girl Kept In 'Cinderella-Type' Conditions Special crimes detectives arrested Mara L. Escobar, 35, on Nov. 14 and charged her with assault and battery on a child as well as assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of rape of a child, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported."Apparently, there have been some assaults, physical and mental abuses that have been going on since 2003," Worcester police Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst said.Social workers said the girl, who suffered from two black eyes and a sprained wrist from allegedly being punched and kicked, told them in September that she had been physically and sexually abused over the last five years while she lived with and did housework for Escobar.The teenager's bedroom was barren with a bureau and a single bed with a blanket and sheet, while Escobar's two daughters' rooms had televisions, DVD players, video games, toys and wall posters, the paper said."She had a room was that was very sparse, basic essentials, that was it, while (Escobar's) daughters, her biological daughters, were living in luxury with all the electronic gadgets that a kid would love to have these days. She had none of that," Hazelhurst said.Escobar was ordered held on $25,000 cash bail.
