Boston police are searching for answers Sunday after five people were gunned down in Dorchester overnight. One woman, the mother of a 15-month-old child, died after she was shot multiple times, according to BPD officials.

At 2:24 a.m., officers received reports of gunfire at 6 Elder St., and then learned that five victims had been shot and were transporting themselves to Boston Medical Center and Brigham & Women’s Hospital for treatment.

Xanda Gomes, 19, was pronounced dead after arriving at Boston Medical Center, officials said. Her sister, 18, and one other victim, a 30-year-old male, were also treated at BMC for multiple gunshot wounds. Their injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Two other men, 20 and 23, were treated for non life-threatening gunshot wounds at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Boston Police Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470.
