PLYMOUTH, Mass. -- This historic Pilgrim town may now become Hollywood east.
Watch ReportThe Plymouth Town Meeting voted Monday night to approve a plan to allow construction of a movie studio in the town.Proponents said Plymouth Rock Studios, which would be built on the site of a 240-acre golf course, would become a major staging area and production facility for moviemakers. The town has already negotiated a 75 percent property tax break and other agreements with the proposed studio. Studio executives must now secure permits and $50 million in state-bonded infrastructure improvements.Last July, the production company bought the Waverly Oaks Golf Club in South Plymouth to build the $400 million studio.Residents who live near the proposed site said they support the idea, but wanted to make sure the bustle of a movie studio doesn’t disturb the neighborhood.
