A young Lynn girl was attacked last Thursday by a pit bull that left the scene with its owner before police arrived, according to the Lynn Daily Item.

The girl, who was about 5 years old, was with her mother walking on the boardwalk on Lynn Shore Drive when the dog approached them, the newspaper reported.

The girl suffered a laceration to her face and was taken to Salem Hospital, where she may need rabies shots. The mother called police, who have been unable to locate the dog or its owner.
