A movie shoot snarled rush hour traffic on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The crew of "The Edge of Darkness," starring Mel Gibson, was shooting in Weston at the exit to Route 128 and Route 30.

The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority apologized to drivers for the delays.

"In hindsight, we should not have allowed the filming to take place during the morning rush hour," said Mac Daniel, director of communications for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority.

Officials said that work reconfiguring the toll lanes at the Weston interchange compounded the problem.

"The Edge of Darkness," which is scheduled to open sometime next year, is about a homicide detective who discovers his daughter's secret life as he investigates her death.
