BOSTON -- The 86-year-old man who struck a crossing guard with his car on Tuesday will be charged, NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported.
Driver Charged After Crossing Guard Hit The crossing guard, Marie Conley, 59, remained in critical condition Wednesday at Boston Medical Center after being struck near the Mather Elementary School in Dorchester."Everybody say a prayer for my mother. She is still in critical condition. It is day-by-day, and that is how we are taking it," Jim Conley said.Conley, a mother of four and eight-year veteran traffic supervisor, was hit by a driver who later told police he stopped after he felt a "bang against his car," according to the Boston Globe."She was in the act of crossing a 10-year-old child. She had placed her hands up to stop the oncoming car, held off the child and was struck by the vehicle," said Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Tom Lee."That is my mother -- she put her life on the line to save the 10-year-old," Jim Conley said. The driver, Anis Cazeau, will be charged."Operating to endanger in a negligent fashion. The school traffic supervisor was in full uniform with a reflective vest. She was standing in a crosswalk. There was no reason that she should be struck," Lee said."They need to tighten up the laws or the rules for driving at a certain age," Jim Conley said.Another crossing guard was dragged by a car a few weeks ago while directing traffic at the Richard J. Murphy School in Dorchester, Conley's supervisor said.
