Police said a crossing guard was hospitalized with severe head injuries early Tuesday after being hit by a vehicle outside a school.

Crossing guard Marie Conley, 59, of Dorchester, was hit before 9 a.m. outside the Mathers Elementary School at Parish and Winter streets near Adams Park in Dorchester, police said.

She was listed in critical condition at Boston Medical Center.

The 86-year-old driver of the car was interviewed by detectives. No charges have been filed.

NewsCenter 5's Jorge Quiroga has learned that the driver was involved in five accidents since 1988, and has a number of motor-vehicle violations on his record.

The driver's license has since been suspended. The driver's license was under a non-renew clause because he owes excise taxes since his last renewal in 2004. His next renewal date was set for 2009.

The driver's identity was not immediately released.
