Ten Boston police dogs will be a little safer on duty thanks to bulletproof vests that are being donated by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and a Super Bowl champion quarterback.

The MSPCA-Angell will present 10 bulletproof vests to the Boston Police Department's K-9 Unit on Tuesday. The vests were purchased by the MSPCA-Angell with a grant from Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger through his foundation and The Giving Back Fund.

"Police officers risk their lives daily to protect our communities and this includes the K-9 units that are on the front lines, in harm's way," said MSPCA-Angell President Carter Luke.

The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation supports police and fire departments throughout the United States with an emphasis on support for service dogs in cities where the quarterback has played football.
