State: Liquor Store Caught Selling To Minors

Sting Aimed At Stopping Underage Drinking

A Holbrook liquor store was caught selling liquor to minors during a sting aimed at stopping underage drinking at high school events.

Sixteen people between the ages of 16 and 19 were found with alcohol, transporting it or trying to buy it at the Holbrook Center Package Store, according to the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission.

Last month, ABCC sent investigators into dozens of college communities and found 381 minors with alcohol, 163 adults buying alcohol for minors and 40 people with fake IDs.

"This program will help prevent underage drinking and ensure that these games remain safe events and that they don’t take a tragic turn," said Treasurer Tim Cahill.

ABCC Investigators contact the parents of underage individuals directly from liquor store parking lots. Criminal complaints are applied for the adults who purchased the alcohol for underage individuals. Confiscated alcohol is stored as evidence for any legal proceedings and later destroyed.

"I am proud of the ABCC investigators' work," said Cahill. "There is no doubt that they are saving lives of both underage individuals and citizens who may have otherwise become victims of alcohol-related accidents."
