One man died Friday when his car crashed into a high school and burst into flames in Rhode Island. Witnesses said the man had just lost his job at the school.

Watch Report

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. at Lincoln High School at 135 Old River Road in Lincoln, R.I. The police said the blue station wagon crashed through a side entrance and drove into the building.

Eyewitnesses at the scene told Rhode Island TV stations that the victim was a school employee who had just been fired.

Classes had been dismissed by the time of the crash, and no students were injured.

Carmel Mendoza, a school secretary, said she and another employee tried to pull the driver from the car after it crashed. Mendoza identified the driver as a special education teacher's aide, but police have not released the victim's identity.

The school superintendent told the Providence Journal that all school activities at the school were canceled this weekend.
