A Pembroke woman is accused of using a young boy to help her steal about $80 worth of candy and toys from a local store last week.

Marie Cooper, 60, of Pembroke, and the child are accused of swiping items from Fedele’s Hand-Dipped Chocolates on Church Street in Pembroke, the Patriot Ledger reported.

On the surveillance video, the pair can be seen taking stuffed animals and the woman appears to be trying to block the boy from view as he pockets candy, the paper reported.

"They were grabbing stuff, walking around the store,” Shawn Fedele told the paper. Fedele's father opened the store 22 years ago.

Cooper is not the boy's mother, but he was in her care at the time of the alleged incident, the police said.

Police Chief Michael Ohrenberger said Cooper will be charged with shoplifting.
