Police Say Suspect Yelled Anti-Gay Slurs During Incident

BOSTON -- A Framingham man was charged Tuesday in connection with an attack on four people in Boston's South End.Fabio Brandao was charged with four civil rights violations, four counts of assault and battery and three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with an Aug. 24 incident on Columbus Avenue.

Brandao was arrested on Friday by Boston police, who said he used homophobic slurs on three men and one woman. All were punched or kicked or both. Two of those victims; wounds were so serious as to require hospitalization, while the other two suffered less serious injuries.Brandao was released on $10,000 bail after his arraignment on 11 charges that include four counts of violating the civil rights of four people he and unknown associates allegedly attacked"Additional suspects remain at large, and we believe others out there know who they are," Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said. "We urge anyone with knowledge of their identities to contact us so we can ensure that this violence -- visited upon four victims walking peacefully down a city street -- does not go unanswered."
