BOSTON -- The town of Mashpee is mourning a young Marine who was killed Thursday near Fallujah, Iraq.
Cape Marine Killed In IraqNewsCenter 5's Jim Morelli reported that Marine Daniel McGuire was 2007 graduate of Mashpee High School."His desire was to serve country he loved so people like you and me could live the way that we want to," said his father, Mark McGuire.McGuire was killed during a small-arms fire attack west of Baghdad near Fallujah on Thursday."I will walk away from this and cry my eyes out, but I can't fault him for what he was doing," Mark McGuire said.McGuire's Eagle Scout project was to set up retired flag receptacles throughout the town."When I go by, I often thought, 'What a great thing.' I guess I got to go by and think, 'What a loss of a great young man,'" said Mashpee Selectman John Cahalane."He loved this country and everything it stood for. And his job was, as far as he was concerned, was to keep it that way," Mark McGuire said.McGuire is survived by his parents and three younger brothers. The funeral arraignments have not been finalized.
