Police said they are still investigating the events that lead up to the discovery, but they do not suspect foul play.

A man out for a walk spotted the teen's body Monday morning in Shoe Pond and called police.

"The body was actually in a spillway, which goes from an upper part of the pond to a lower part of a pond. There is actually two ponds down there," said Beverly police Officer John McCarthy.

The 17-year-old was reported missing on Saturday night. Officials said they have ruled out suicide.

"At this time, the matter is under investigation. Although it appears to be accidental in nature, the state police assigned to the Essex County District Attorney's Office is thoroughly investigating this to make a determination," McCarthy said.

The teen's name has not been released.
