Neighbors Save Dog From Burning Home

Pair Helped Get Dog Out Of Weymouth House

Residents in Weymouth helped save a German shepherd from a burning house Friday morning.

The dog's owners were not home when the fire broke out at 12 Weybosset St. The dog, named Isabel, was locked inside and started barking.

Two neighbors heard the barking and saw the smoke coming from the fire. One neighbor climbed a ladder and smashed through a window screen to get to the dog.

"I called the dog. It was scared. Isabel jumped up on the ledge. I grabbed Isabel, passed it out to Ellie," said Sal Litterio, who helped save the dog.

"Even when we scrapped her hind leg coming across the sill for the screen, she never whimpered or anything. She was awesome," said Ellie Cleary, who helped save the dog.

Both neighbors said they're not heroes and that they simply did what most neighbors would do in a similar situation.
