A man seen in the Caribbean Thursday was not the man accused of kidnapping his 7-year-old daughter in Boston, police said late Friday after officials in Turks and Caicos announced the sightings.

Clark Rockefeller, 48, who has several aliases, allegedly abducted Reigh Rockefeller on Sunday in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood during a supervised visit with the child.

Turks and Caicos Detective Sgt. Calvin Chase said earlier in the day that Rockefeller was spotted on two occasions Thursday and that the girl's hair had been cut short. He said Rockefeller was spotted at 9:30 a.m. at a NAPA auto store and then at 2:30 p.m. at a 7-Eleven convenience store, Chase said.

Boston police said that the girl and man were not the Rockefellers, but officials did not disclose how they ruled out the sightings.

"Those sightings were confirmed today by photographs. He had his daughter, but her hair had been cut to look like a boy," Chase said. "She appeared to be OK. She was in good health. They didn't see no adverse thing from her. She appeared to be happy from the witnesses that saw them."

The detective said Rockefeller bought milk for his daughter at the store and asked where he could buy gas for a boat, according to those who spotted the pair. Chase said his department was actively searching the islands and had aerial support from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Boston police have received hundreds of tips from across the country. Some of the reported sightings include: Port Jefferson, N.Y.; Smyrna, Del.; and Turks and Caicos.

On Thursday, Reigh's mother, Sandra Boss, made a plea, asking her former husband to bring her "princess" home safe. The couple divorced in 2007, and Boss was awarded custody.

"Although many things have changed, you will always be Reigh's father and I will always be Reigh’s mother. We both love her dearly and have only her best interests and well-being in our hearts. I ask you now, please, please bring 'Snooks' back. There has to be a better way for us to solve our differences than this way," Boss said. "And Reigh, honey, I love you and miss you so much. Remember you're always a princess."

As detectives search for the missing father and daughter, they are also trying to turn up anything about the mysterious man's past.

Police said Rockefeller has several aliases, and officials haven't been able to find a Social Security number for the man, a driver's license or any real work or education history for him.

Police said they believe Rockefeller manipulated a friend who unwittingly helped with his getaway. She was identified as Aileen Ang, of Ispwich, Mass., a casual acquaintance he met through his sailing club.

Rockefeller allegedly paid Ang $500 to drive him and his daughter from Boston to New York. She said Rockefeller told her they were going to Bermuda.

The Boston Police Department released updated descriptions of the father and daughter. When last seen, Rockefeller was wearing a blue Lacoste shirt and khaki pants.

He dyes his hair a shade of orange/red, however, police said he also has a permanent white patch of hair on the back of his head that is difficult to conceal.

Rockefeller reportededly speaks with an accent that has been described by various individuals as Boston Brahmin, European and Scottish sounding. He also reportedly speaks some Russian. His interests are in sailing, physics and art. He frequents libraries.

Reigh has been described as having a bright, infectious smile, blond hair and blue eyes. Police said that she is smart, outgoing, confident and affectionate and will converse with anyone.

The girl has a large vocabulary, uses big words and speaks with a British accent, authorities said.

Reigh has a distinctive walk and usually hops every five to six paces. Her favorite color is pink, and she loves the book and the movie "The Little Princess."

The Boston Police Department and the FBI ask that anyone with information call 617-343-4328 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 800-494-TIPS (8477).

They would especially like to talk to any witnesses who saw the pair at 5 Marlborough Street, Garden Street, Cambridge Street and Lewis Wharf in Boston or Grand Central Station in New York.

Watch NewsCenter 5 at 5 p.m. Friday for a report on the sighting.
