Four children and their mother who were allegedly abducted by the children's father in Lynn, Mass., Wednesday have been found safe in New York after an Amber Alert was issued in two states, police said.

Rodlyn Petitbois, 25, abducted the four children, ranging in age from 11 months to 3 years, and their mother, Louna Eveillard, 26, from 99½ High Rock St. in Lynn at about 1 a.m., police said. The woman and children -- Ryan Petitbois, 3; Lyndsey Petitbois, 2; Lauren Petitbois, 22 months; and Roddick Petitbois, 11 months -- were believed to be in danger, according to police.

Petitbois was arrested without incident at about 6 p.m. while he was walking down the street in Brooklyn. Eveillard and the four children were found safe in a Brooklyn apartment. Petitbois will be charged in connection with a fatal overnight stabbing in Lynn at the High Rock Street address.

Police found Greenland Etienne, 33, suffering from stab wounds to the face in a second-floor apartment at the High Rock Street home shortly after 1 a.m., according to Steve O'Connell, of the Essex County District Attorney's Office. She was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

It is unclear what the relationship was between Etienne and Petitbois, but a neighbor said that Eveillard may have stepped in to try to protect Etienne from Petitbois.

When the Amber Alert was issued in Massachusetts, police said that Petitbois was "extremely dangerous and may be armed."

"The mother of the children, Louna Eveillard, we do not believe, at this time, is an accomplice in this matter," Essex County District Attorney John Blodgett said.

Blodgett described the couple's relationship as "tenuous." It is unclear where the family lives, or who has custody of the children.

Petitbois was described as a black man with black hair worn in cornrows or dreadlocks. When he was last seen, he had a beard. Eveillard was described as a black female with a slender build and short hair. She speaks broken English and is of Haitian descent. She also is believed to have a significant fresh injury to one of her hands and may be in need of medical attention or wearing a bandage around one of her hands, police said.

Officials said Petitbois came to the United States in 1999, and may have ties to New York City or New York State. Blodgett said Petitbois did not have a local criminal history, and had a government-issued photo identification but did not have a driver's license.

The family was spotted in Boston's Haymarket Square Wednesday morning at a train station. Hours later, an Amber Alert was issued in New York.

The car the couple and children were thought to be traveling in, a white 1992 Buick Roadmaster, was recovered early Wednesday afternoon. Police said they do not think the car was used in the abduction.

The FBI and immigration authorities have joined Lynn and state police in the investigation.
