ROCHESTER -- Emergency crews were called to Milton Road shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday on reports of a hit-and -run accident involving a pedestrian and a dog.

Police said, Raymond Poirier, 71, was walking his dog on the southbound shoulder of the road. They were struck by a southbound vehicle that when off the shoulder. After striking Poirier and his dog the driver left the scene, said investigators.

The vehicle is described as blue, possibly a Chevy Lumina. A partial New Hampshire plate of 259 was recalled by witnesses, said police. The vehicle would have front passenger side damage and hood damage. The driver is described as a short female, said police.

Poirier is expected to recover from his injuries but his dog died at the scene.
