Program Lets Children Live In Dorms

BOSTON -- A recent spotlight on teen pregnancies at Gloucester High School received world-wide attention. In nearby Beverly, local moms who have been there are now attending college.NewsCenter 5's Bianca de la Garza reported that a unique program is letting them live on campus, where they can raise their children.

"You know, can we have a play date here? And I'm like other parents may not be as comfortable because we live in a dorm," mother Jessica Rockowitz said.Bayview is not a typical dorm. There is a playground out back and a playroom inside the building. Single parents attending Endicott College in Beverly are living on campus."They go to school. They take care of children. They go to class and are in school. It's amazing what they do they do. I have three honor students," said Jill Sullivan, of Endicott College.Amanda Hall, who was pregnant with her son at Woburn High School, said that she held onto her aspirations"I graduated third in my class. There was never a question whether I'd go to college," Hall said.Endicott College is the only school in the state right now offering this program. Right now, 11 families with 11 children are living on campus."I definitely would not have had a genuine college experience without this. I would have been living at my mom's house," Hall said.Endicott's program offers support, such as help with paying for daycare.
