A man who was lighting fireworks in the middle of the road was hit by a car and killed Friday, police said.

Police said the driver, Brian Dickerson, 19, saw the firework and was driving fast trying to hit it with his car when he slammed into a 39-year-old man who was standing in the street.

“Everything was in slow motion, and he just flew through the air like Superman,” said the victim’s fiancée Holly Spooner. “He had just hugged me and told me that he loved me, and now he’s gone.”

Dickerson told police he did not see man in the road.
