BOSTON -- A Suffolk Superior Court jury found a Dorchester man guilty of four counts of murder on Wednesday.Calvin Carnes, 21, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Jason Bachiller, 21; Jihad Chankhour, 22; Edwin Duncan, 21; and Chris Vieira, 19, in December 2005. The shooting took place in Duncan's basement apartment at 43 Bourneside St.Carnes was also convicted of three counts of armed robbery and single counts each of larceny, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a shotgun and unlawful possession of a high-capacity weapon. The victims are all graduates of Wakefield High School. Three of the victims were members of the fledgling rap group Graveside.Prosecutors said on Dec. 13, 2005, Carnes took a Glock 9mm semiautomatic handgun from Vieira and shot him before opening fire on the three other men. After the shooting, prosecutors said Carnes and Robert Turner, 21, fled the scene in Vieira's car. They took with them the Glock, a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun and an AK-47 machine gun. The men tried to hide and sell the guns after the shootings, prosecutors said.During the three-week trial, jurors heard from more than 65 witnesses and saw more than 200 physical exhibits. The jury had to restart deliberations twice after two members of the panel were dismissed for various personal reasons.Turner pleaded guilty to four counts of accessory after the fact to murder and several weapons charges in April. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison.Carnes will be sentenced on Friday. Each of the four first-degree murder convictions carry a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole."I commend the prosecutors and the detectives who worked so diligently on this complicated and high-profile case. I hope this development brings a sense of closure to the families and justice for the victims," Boston police Commissioner Ed Davis said in a statement after the verdict.
