BOSTON -- For the second time in a year, the streets of Boston will be turned into a mobile party Thursday morning.See Parade Route Map Boston Mayor Tom Menino said a "rolling rally" to honor the NBA champion Boston Celtics will roll through the city's downtown streets, starting at the TD Bank North Garden and ending at Copley Square in the Back Bay.Take a Virtual Parade DriveStreets along the parade route will be closed at 9:30 a.m., and Menino urged those coming into the city to take the MBTA.The rally will start at the TD Banknorth Garden, where the Celtics clinched their 17th crown on Tuesday night with a 131-92 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.The parade will start on Causeway Street in front of the Garden, where Celtics players, coaching staff and family will board Duck boats, heading up Staniford Street, turning left onto Cambridge Street, then onto Tremont, before turning right onto Boylston Street and ending at Copley Square. Large televisions will be set up in the Boston Common and Copley Square.In regard to traffic restrictions, the streets along the route will be closed to general traffic beginning at 9:30 a.m. and for the duration of the parade.“Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event -- Thursday,” signs will be posted along New Chardon (entire); State Street, from Congress to Washington; and Court Street, from Washington to Tremont. Boylston Street from Dartmouth to Gloucester will be used for staging purposes. Other streets downtown will be closed for periods of time to prepare for and clean up after the event.Police Commissioner Ed Davis said police would increase patrols along the parade route and would be looking out for drunken behavior and disorderly conduct. Police are asking that parents talk with young people about coming into Boston for the parade; public and underage drinking will not be tolerated.City officials also urge fans to use public transportation as much as possible throughout the day, as there will be many parking restrictions. The MBTA will also have enhanced service by increasing trains and monitoring other train and bus lines as needed.The city has held the "rolling rallies" on “Duck Boats” to celebrate championships from the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.The last one was on Oct. 30, after the Red Sox completed a four-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies in the World Series.NewsCenter 5 and TheBostonChannel.com will have complete live coverage of the parade.
