A woman went shopping at a New Hampshire store Tuesday and left her 3-year-old child in a car as temperatures soared into the 90s, according to the Salem Police Department.

Officers were called to the store parking lot at about 1:40 p.m. They found the child in a black Acura with the windows slightly cracked. The child did not appear to be in distress.

Store employees paged the owner of the vehicle, who responded from the back of the store. The child was removed from the car in overall good health.

Officials said that it is not known how long the child was left alone in the car. The child was released to the mother, but officials said that police would seek an arrest warrant on charges of endangering the welfare of a child.

The mother's name was not released.
