Officials are trying to corral a number of runaway cows that escaped last month from a Groton farm, according to the Lowell Sun.

Twenty-three Black Angus cattle escaped through a hole in a fence at the farm at 133 Shirley Road on May 30, the newspaper reported. A few of the cows were found standing in the middle of Route 119 on Friday night.

Town officials said that they were concerned about the animals being struck by vehicles. The cows, which are a few months old, weigh between 500 and 800 pounds each.

Some of the cows have been captured, but the rest remain on the loose.
