Boston's other Green Monster started to come down Friday, as Big Dig crews began removing part of the elevated Central Artery.

NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that workers began to dismantle the old ramp from Interstate 93 southbound to Leverett Circle.

A ceremonial piece of the green, steel structure was removed and lowered to the ground Friday morning. The rest will be removed over the next few months. In all, 600 tons of steel and 600 tons of concrete will be removed, to allow access to the new Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge.

The northbound side of the bridge will be open by this December, and the other direction will be open by next December.

The remainder of the Central Artery will come down over the next couple of years.
