BOSTON -- A woman was critically injured Saturday night after being struck by a car while crossing the street in West Roxbury.
Patricia Dolan, 44, of Roslindale, was arrested and charged with drunken driving after refusing a breath test, according to police.
Watch VideoNewsCenter 5's Jim Morelli reported the victim had just finished having dinner with friends at the nearby Himalayan Bistro restaurant when she walked into the crosswalk near Centre Street and Belgrade Avenue.
“It just looked like a doll being thrown in the air. This car came very rapidly, and we yelled out to her, ‘Watch out!’ ” said the victim’s friend Cheryl Levin.
“We stopped at the crosswalk and she went out ahead of us, and a very fast-driving car just hit her, and threw her about 40 feet or 50 feet,” said the victim's friend Peter Bates.
Doctors who were having dinner in a restaurant assisted police officers giving emergency medical care, police Supt. Daniel Linsky said. The driver of the car did stop and police are investigating whether the crosswalk signal indicated that it was safe to cross the street. They also said the victim may have been on her cell phone at the time of the accident.
The name of the victim was not immediately released by police.
