University Offers Free Bio-Medical Program

Hundreds Apply, But Only 50 Spots Available

The rising cost of education has many worried, but some students are going to college for free.

NewsCenter 5's Bianca de la Garza reported Thursday that Boston University is offering a free program that may land students a well-paying bio-medical job.

Students are graduating from Boston University's City Lab Program, receiving a bio-medical laboratory science certificate, and it did not cost them a penny.

"It's invaluable. I feel lucky to have gone into this program and enjoy the resources of City Lab Academy," one student said.

City Lab recruiter Sophan Sok said city residents aged 20 to 45 with a high school diploma or GED can apply.

"An entry level position could pay $25,000 to $33,000," Sok said.

The lab has 50 spots. About 500 people apply, but it's worth it because if you had to pay it would cost you more than $5,000.

"I couldn't pay for it," another student said. "It's been a great support. I would not have been able to afford doing it."
