A masked man broke into a Dennis home, kidnapped a 15-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her, police said Monday.

NewsCenter 5's Amalia Barreda reported that the girl was forced out of her bed and sexually assaulted along Route 6A at about 1:45 a.m.

Officials said that the man entered the home through an unlocked door and found the girl sleeping in her second-floor bedroom. The girl told police that the man, who was wearing a black mask, put a gloved hand over her mouth and forced her out of the room.

"He told her not to scream, to comply with his demands and that he had a knife and he would harm her and her family if she did not," Dennis Capt. William Monahan said.

Police said that the man took the girl to a business on Route 6A, where he sexually assaulted her. Monahan said that the girl was able to talk the man into letting her go, and she ran home to tell her parents what happened.

"She said that her mother was getting up to go to work and that she would find her missing and would call the police," Monahan said. "That convinced the attacker to let her go."

The assailant was described as a white man, who is 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build. The girl said that the man was wearing a dark-colored fleece jacket, light-colored pants and a dark-colored mask.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Dennis police tip line at 774-352-1500.
