Police in Wellesley were questioning two people after a town worker was shot on Tuesday.

Street Cleaner Driver Shot

A Department of Public Works employee driving a street cleaner was shot by a pellet gun on Rock Ridge Road late Tuesday morning.

"As (the street cleaner) was beginning to make the corner, something was fired through the window. It pierced through the Plexiglas window and it struck the driver on the back of his head behind his ear," Wellesley Police Deputy Chief Bill Brooks said.

Police questioned two men in a nearby home after the incident, but no arrests were made or charges filed.

"They are in a house that lines up with the trajectory of the round that would have pierced through the Plexiglas and then strike the driver," Brooks said.

Brooks said once they figure out who fired the weapon, they will be charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

"Shocked, surprised, also a little concerned because we have a lot of kids on this block and you don't know what is going to happen," neighbor Sheldon Oppenheim said.

The worker was not seriously injured.
