A Holliston man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly mailing a bomb threat to the Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles. Officials said the letter mentioned actress Jodie Foster.

Federal prosecutors said Tuesday the letter was identical to more than 100 others that were sent to celebrities, businesses, airports and other institutions in the Los Angeles area between last September and January this year.

Michael Smegal of Holliston allegedly sent the letter to the Van Nuys Airport in December. Prosecutors also said he had admitted sending letters and packages to Foster in 2004 and had promised to stop.

They said DNA samples from three of the letters sent in recent months matched the material sent to Foster.

Smegal did not immediately return a call seeking comment. The 42-year-old faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
