BOSTON -- A truck driver from Ohio has been cited after a crane he was carrying on a flatbed hit the ceiling of a Massachusetts Turnpike tunnel on Tuesday.
Crane Hits Tunnel CeilingJeffrey C. Peck, 50, of Revanna, Ohio, was charged with failure to respond to an overheight alarm before the boom on a crane he was hauling hit the ceiling of an Interstate 90 connector tunnel at about 4:12 p.m. Tuesday.
Surveillance video from the tunnel showed that the truck triggered oversized vehicle sensors, activating an electronic warning sign as it entered the Ted Williams Tunnel. The trucker kept going despite the warnings, said Mac Daniel of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. The crane's boom gouged into the tunnel ceiling before the truck came to a stop, Daniel said. There was no major damage from the incident. Daniel said the section of the I-90 connector does not have suspended ceilings. No injuries were reported. It took Massachusetts State Police about 1 1/2 hours to clear the scene. The trucking company, Triple Lady's Agency Inc., of Mantua, Ohio, was also cited for an overheight violation and failing to secure the load.
