BOSTON -- The Level 3 sex offender charged with raping a young boy in a New Bedford library last month will face a judge in court Wednesday.Corey Deen Saunders was released from prison a year ago, despite the strenuous objections of a district attorney and three psychologists. It's now a case that could spark changes in the way Massachusetts handles all sex offender cases.
NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that Saunders, 26, is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on the alleged rape case. He was charged in January with allegedly attacking a 6-year-old boy in Fall River's public library. He had served time in prison for attempting to rape a 7-year-old boy, but in 2006 New Bedford Superior Court Judge Richard Moses released him, ruling that he was not dangerous, despite the protests of three psychologists who said he still posed a threat to children.
