An ice rink in Franklin was dedicated to a fallen soldier on Tuesday night.

Staff Sgt. Robert Pirelli, 27, was a decorated Green Beret when he was killed by enemy fire in Iraq last August.

Pirelli's family said he found camaraderie at his hometown rink when he was growing up.

Pirelli's father, Robert, said the support of the community has helped them since his death.

"I couldn't see myself living in another town during this because they all came out -- from the little kids to the parents. The support we've gotten is phenomenal," he said.

Last week, Pirelli was posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor.
