A Dorchester resident was stabbed inside his home after catching a man who was allegedly trying to pull off a burglary.

NewsCenter 5's Jim Boyd reported that police got the call just after 11 p.m. that a resident at 24 Greenwood had been stabbed in the stomach by an intruder. Joseph Lindsay lives in the home with his sister and brother-in-law, Maurice Lee. He said his brother-in-law is the victim.

"He got beat up pretty bad. He got bruises all over," Lindsay said.

Lee, 58, was attacked after he went to investigate noises in the basement.

"When he went down there, the guy attacked him and they got into a big fight, big altercation. The guy stabbed him in the stomach, and he got cut on his neck," Lindsay said.

Lee was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was still being evaluated late Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect apparently entered the basement by breaking the lock on a bulkhead door outside the rear of the building. Lindsay said the intruder would not have been able to get into the house.

Police described the intruder as a black man in his 30s, with a medium complexion and long braids. Officials said he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Lindsay said it is generally a quiet neighborhood and wants neighbors to be aware that the attack occurred.

"People in the neighborhood need to know what's going on," he said. "And for somebody to break in my house and come in here and hurt my brother-in-law like that, of course if that was happening to anybody else I hope they would be like me and let people know."
