A 19-year-old from Dennisport was accused Wednesday of biting a 1-year-old boy and burning the toddler with a cigarette.

Police said that Anthony Delman bit and burned the child between Dec. 5 and Dec. 6

The child's biological father noticed several bruises and marks on the child's body after picking up the child for visitation from the mother's Dennisport residence.

He brought his son to the police station, and he was later transported to Cape Cod Hospital where he was examined and treated for burns to the sole of his right foot, right ear lobe and also behind each ear. Officials said all of the burns where consistent with having been made by the tip of a lit cigarette.

Additionally, the child had an apparent human bite mark to his left foot and bruising on the face, shoulder and buttocks area, according to police.

The child's biological mother had brought the him to Delman's residence on Wednesday evening for dinner with Delman and his live-in girlfriend. After dinner, the child was placed in a crib in Delman's bedroom. Officials said that sometime late Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning, Delman assaulted the child as the mother slept on a couch in the living room.

The Department of Social Services took custody of the child at the hospital.

Delman was held overnight at the Barnstable County House of Corrections on $5,00o bail. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Orleans District Court Wednesday. Delman was charged with six counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault and battery on a child resulting in serious injury.
