Braintree police said they arrested two men in connection with a bank robbery at an Eastern Bank over the weekend after a tipster called detectives when a photo of the robbery was aired on local TV stations.

Officers said they arrested George Englehart, 43, of Hingham, and Walter E. Bennett, Jr., 50, of Hanson, after a bank surveillance photo from the Eastern Bank in Weymouth Landing was broadcast on Boston area news stations.

Acting on information received from an individual who watched the news broadcast on Monday evening, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Englehart.

He was identified as the person who entered the bank, claimed to have a handgun and robbed a teller of money, police said.

Information was also received that Bennett was more likely than not the driver of the getaway car, a red Buick Century, a police news release said.

A witness who saw the getaway car parked in a handicap parking space outside the bank later identified Bennett from a photo array as the person she saw driving the car that Englehart allegedly fled in moments after the bank robbery.

Detectives located the Buick parked outside a Hanson house later that day. They followed the car to a local Hanson business where they identified Bennett and arrested him without incident.

Braintree and Hanson police officers then returned to the house where they determined Englehart was and ordered him to exit. He surrendered after a very brief standoff and was taken into custody.

Both men were charged with armed robbery and larceny over $250. Englehart is also charged with threats to commit a crime.

Both men were expected to be arraigned in Quincy District Court on Thursday.
