BOSTON -- Federal aviation officials are trying to help Thanksgiving travelers get where they're going a lot quicker this holiday season. The Transportation Security Administration has one word for passengers: SimpliFly. It's all part of their new plan to get people to their holiday destination on time. The federal airport security agency is asking passengers to be even more careful this week, hoping that will speed up the lines at checkpoints. "Don't have too many things packed into your bag. Try to pack it in layers so we can identify any problems," said George Naccara, of the Transportation Safety Administration. Passengers should try to eliminate clutter in their carryon items. Then, pack in layers to make it easier for screeners to see what's in their luggage. And finally, keep items neat."Take your coats off, take your shoes off, take your laptop computer out of the bag, have your boarding pass ready, have your identification ready," Naccara said."People get a little upset when they have to wait in line, but you have to realize you are traveling during the holiday. When you travel during the holiday, you have to leave expecting you will have lines," passenger Darryl Davis said.Passengers should arrive at the airport two hours before their flight. The federal government also opened restricted flight paths to help ease congestion."We are under capacity for this airport, so if flights are released, we will be able to handle them and get them in here on time. We think it will be a positive effect on the Logan Airport," said Massport Director Of Aviation Edward C. Freni.More than 27 million people are expected to fly over the Thanksgiving holiday.
