1 Dead After Police Chase, Crash

No Name Released In Case

A driver who led police on a chase through several towns died Tuesday night.

State and Winchester police chased the driver from Methuen through Haverhill, Medford, and Winchester before a crash occurred in Arlington.

Arlington police said they were notified of a crash about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Lafayette Street in East Arlington.

The vehicle had knocked down a utility pole and there were wires down at the scene, police said.

The driver was extricated from the vehicle and later identified as Ernest Williams, 47, of Woburn.

Williams was taken to Beth Israel Hospital where he later died, Arlington police said.
