BOSTON -- One Red Sox fan really struck out the night the team won the World Series.NewsCenter 5's Amalia Barreda reported that Michael DeMello's vehicle was turned over by overzealous fans."I turned on the news. And as soon as I put on the news I said, 'Hey that's our street.' And then we said, 'That's your car. Wait a minute. They're tipping your car,'" said DeMello.DeMello's 2002 yellow Ford Ranger pickup was an object of twisted celebration; trashed by Red Sox fans delirious over the team's World Series win Sunday night. The incident left a trail of damage for DeMello and his neighbors on Boylston Street around the corner from Fenway Park. DeMello said it really hit him when he got a call from his insurance agent."'You know, I just want to let you know that it's a total loss. And come pick up your stuff,'" DeMello said.DeMello found himself dealing with police reports and insurance agents at a time when he's supposed to be resting and recovering from hernia surgery. The operation was a big reason why he stayed away from the stampeding crowds. The totaled truck hurts on a number of fronts. For one thing, a couple more payments and it would have been paid off."So far, I've paid $25,000 for the truck but my insurance company left me a message saying there's only going to be maybe $6,000 that I get back from all of this," he said.DeMello is a nurse who works different locations. He said he needs a car to do his job."My message is: It's really important to have a good time, and it's really important to celebrate when your team wins but I was on their team, too, you know? And I didn't win anything. I only lost," he said.
