A body has been found on Route 106 near Interstate 95 in Foxborough.

Homicide investigators were on the scene early Monday and said they had discovered the body of a young man who had been shot multiple times. His identity was not released. He was described only as a male in his late teens or early 20s.

Police said they received a call from a motorist about 1 a.m. Monday about a body in the road under the Interstate 95 overpass. They said paramedics could not revive him when they arrived on the scene.

Officers said neighbors who live near the scene, which is close to the Cabot Business Park, reported hearing gunshots about 12:30 a.m.

"Sometime after 12:30 multiple gunshots rang out, several rounds of gunshots. And then sometime around one o'clock a local employee who was just leaving work was driving down the street and saw what they thought was perhaps debris in the road, took a little closer look, they were a little concerned that maybe they were being set up. Doubled back, stayed in their car but then realized that it was a body. Then they called 911," Norfolk County District Attorney William Keating said.

State police and Foxboro police were working together on the investigation and Route 106 was closed down from the Mansfield line to the Interstate 95 overpass while they collected evidence at the scene.
