Statement Of Council President Feeney

The following is a statement of Boston City Council President Maureen E. Feeney regarding recent reports on Firefighters Warren Payne and Paul Cahill who died in the line of duty on Aug. 29.

"My thoughts and my prayers continue to be with the Cahill and Payne families and their brothers and sisters in uniform. As this investigation continues, I remain committed to do everything in my power to ensure that tragedies like this never happen again.

"While my concern today is for these families, I am also troubled by the conditions of stress that lead our firefighters to situations such as these. I will join with the Mayor in reviewing department procedures and practices. In order to better serve our brave men and women who serve others so selflessly, we must adequately prevent, detect and treat potential problems early on."
