A 17-year-old faced charges Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a Revere police officer.

Officer Dan Talbot was killed early Saturday as he socialized with other off-duty officers behind Revere High School.

Derek Lodie, of Revere, was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on an accessory before the fact to murder charge.

Talbot, his fiancee and a few other officers were behind the school when a small group of people confronted them and shots were fired. Talbot was struck in the head. Police said that Lodie started the confrontation with Talbot.

"When the defendant approached the group and engaged them in a heated verbal confrontation, the defendant, apparently, looking for some assistance called on a cellular telephone three associates of his, three individuals known to the commonwealth, ordered them to Revere High School to continue the confrontation," prosecutor Edmond Zabin said. "As the group confronted Officer Talbot and his group, one of the defendant's associates opened fire with a semi-automatic pistol. As a result of that action, Officer Talbot was struck in the head and killed."

Three other people were taken into custody on other charges, but they have not been connected to the slaying.

"I would say that we have a few, certainly, that we feel very strongly about. We will once again go where the evidence leads us in terms of the investigation, but we are feeling very good about the investigation as we speak," Revere Police Department Chief Terence Reardon said.

Lodie was held without bail. Talbot will be laid to rest on Saturday.
