Investigators were awaiting autopsy results and reviewing a "a broad range of evidence" Sunday in their investigation of the shooting death of an off-duty Revere police officer early Saturday.

Daniel Talbot, 30, was shot in an incident behind Revere High School. He was pronounced dead Saturday night.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said Talbot joined the force five years ago and was part of the gang unit.

The incident happened in a parking lot near Janvrin Avenue at about 2 a.m. Conley would not comment on what may have sparked the shooting or who pulled the trigger. No arrests have been made.

"Rumors of an arrest in connection with officer Talbot's death are patently false," the District Attorney's Office said in a press release Sunday night. "Massachusetts State Police, the Suffolk DA's Office, and Revere police continue to investigate the facts and circumstances."

Conley said Talbot's fiancee was at the scene of the shooting, and that she and several other people were interviewed.

"Because of the very sensitive nature of this investigation and because it remains very active, we cannot discuss the details and findings we have reached at this point," he said.

Neighbors said they heard at least two shots fired.

Friends of Talbot left condolences on his MySpace.com page, where he was known as "Viper."
