Man, 20, Charged In Fatal Drunken Driving Crash

BOSTON -- A 20-year-old from Leicester was charged Monday in connection with a drunken driving crash that claimed the life of a young mother from Worcester.NewsCenter 5's Amalia Barreda reported that a Chevy pick-up truck operated by Matthew Galvin was driving east on Cambridge Street in Worcester Sunday night when he crossed the line and hit a Ford Escort head on. Iliamarie Rosado, 18, a passenger in the Ford, was killed. The driver of the Ford and one of Galvin's passengers were injured and listed in critical condition."He did take a breathalyzer. He was a .22 on the breathalyzer, which was given almost two hours after the crash occurred," prosecutor Blake Rubin said."She was outgoing. She was happy. She was going to go back to school," said Rosado's sister, Janaya. "My mom is in shock. My dad is in shock."Galvin was charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence, OUI while causing serious bodily harm, operating to endanger and failure to stay within marked lanes.Galvin was not injured in the crash. When officers arrived at the scene of the crash, they said that Galvin was standing next to his truck."The officer immediately noticed that there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from the defendant's breath. He exhibited signs of being someone who was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was very unsteady on his feet," Rubin said."He did not know anyone died until I told him in lockup. He was quite shocked and sends his condolences to the family of the deceased. He had no idea," defense attorney Lynne Martin said.
