Boston police said they have made an arrest in connection with a fatal road rage car crash in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood early Friday that claimed the life of one woman and seriously injured a baby.

The 30-year-old woman was killed and the baby rushed to the hospital in critical condition after a the crash at Blue Hill Avenue and Fabyan Street in Boston about 2:40 a.m. Friday.

"One has been pronounced at the scene, another's being treated at a local hospital, along with two children that are being treated at local hospitals," Boston Police Deputy Daniel Linskey said.

Police said they arrested Jason Bailey, 28, of Boston, charging him with three counts of motor vehicle homicide, leaving the scene, personal injury, leaving the scene resulting in one death, operating under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger and speeding. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court Friday morning.

Four people were in the the white Dodge Neon when it hit a pole at about 3 a.m., knocking it over into the street. Police said the people in the cars may have known each other.

An 8-month-old still strapped into a car seat was thrown from the car. The baby was hospitalized, as was a 10-year-old child and another 30-year-old woman.

A local newspaper deliveryman said he saw the cars speed by while on his route.

"It looked like they both took up both lanes at the same time, one on each side, that's what it looked like from my angle. At that time of the morning, you figure it would be kind of safe and quiet, but even at 2:30 in the morning ... it was kind of hectic," Thomas McNair said.

The names of the victims were not released.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The road was closed between Talbot and Morton streets Friday morning as reconstruction teams tried to determine what happened.
