BOSTON -- A 41-year-old mother from Roxbury died while swimming in Jamaica Pond Sunday, police said. Police said the unidentified drowned Sunday night while in shallow water and her boyfriend and 7-year-old son watched from the shore in horror. It all happened about 7 p.m. Sunday. Swimming is not allowed in Jamaica Pond, but it appears the woman went in for a dip to try and cool off. Divers said the woman was found in just 5 feet of water and was barely alive when she was pulled from the water. She was pronounced dead at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Officials are hoping an autopsy will help determine what caused the woman to drown in such shallow water.
