After spending five days lost and alone in the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest, a Massachusetts woman was back with her family Monday night.

NewsCenter 5's Mary Saladna reported that Mary O'Brien, 45, of Arlington, was reported missing on July 3 after she did not return from a day hike in Washington state's Olympic National Park.

O'Brien said she hiked for five days trying to find her way out of the forest. She was found on Saturday near a lake in the park.

"It was a miracle. I haven't seen anybody in five days," she said.

O'Brien said as she was sitting near the lake, she heard what she thought was plane and waded out into the lake with a tarp to use as a signal flag.

"I was waving and waving. It was a motorboat -- a couple out for the day enjoying the lake. I started to cry. I was so happy," she said.

O'Brien suffered some minor injurious, but she said she will continue to hike.
