BOSTON -- Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is always one to speak his mind to the media, and now his wife is doing the same.NewsCenter 5's Rhondella Richardson reported Shonda Schilling is firing back at criticism of a program she helped set up to protect children from the dangers of the sun.The couple and some Red Sox players have kicked off what they call SPF: Sun Protection Flicks, a partnership with Showcase Cinemas aimed at reducing kids' skin cancer exposure. They're offering free matinees to bring kids indoors and out of the midday sun. The plan also includes selling 44-ounce Schilling collector's cups of soda at the films. Some doctors said that they're concerned that the program promotes a sedentary lifestyle, which can lead to obesity. The press surrounding the partnership has turned negative. The Boston Herald said that the idea strikes out."I can't figure out why that article was ever written that way," Schilling said. "I didn't think that I was saying to anybody, 'You have to drink this soda. Don't exercise.' I was saying, 'Take a break at noon, and here is a way that you can do it.'"Schilling, who has had five skin cancer surgeries, said that her goal is just to give kids a break from the sun during part of the day and protect their health.
