Preschooler Contracts Syphilis, Officials Say

School Holds Meeting For Parents

POSTED: 6:34 am EDT May 11, 2007

There was a surprising diagnosis for a preschooler in Provincetown this week. The child contracted syphilis.

An informational meeting was held Thursday night for parents of students in the preschool program.

Health officials told them the child did not contract the disease sexually -- that it was passed through skin-to- skin contact.

They said the child is now healthy and the school is safe.

The Department of Public Health urged parents in the Provincetown preschool program to have their children tested for syphilis as a precaution.
